DIY Burglar Alarm

Burglar alarms have become largely nontechnical in recent times. With improving technology, it has become quite easy to install burglar alarms yourself. In fact, there are DIY burglar alarm instructions with almost every burglar alarm system in the market today which helps you to install these devices without seeking professional help. Most of these instructions are quite precise and will help you to put up these systems and activate them without much difficulty.

The benefit of getting a DIY burglar alarm installed yourself is the great saving you will have in the cost. Professionals can charge several hundred dollars depending on their expertise, but when you can put up one of these systems yourself, this becomes a frivolous expense. Instead, you can spend an hour understanding the instructions and then setting out with the job. In most cases, it won't take you more than an hour to properly install the burglar alarm, provided you have acquainted yourself with the system thoroughly.

First, you need to check what the burglar alarm system kit contains. Assuming that you are using a wirefree system, it must have door and window contacts, passive infrared motion detectors, remote control, control panel, battery backup and the required batteries. These are the minimal equipments that you must get with your DIY burglar alarm, but you may not want to restrict yourself with only these. Some people go for additional parts such as extra contacts, extra motion detectors, etc. You might also want to order a DIY kit that is calibrated so that you can configure it so as not to go off for movement of pets.

Your first job is to find out the points where you will install the various parts. Contractors spend some time finding the ideal locations and marking them with signs before making the actual installations. You can do the same too. You must cover all the entry and exit points in the house and select locations for the sirens such that they are not easily discernible to a potential intruder. You will also need to select a proper location for the control panel.

Once the detection of these points is over, you follow the instructions in the manual to install the sirens. Since the alarms are wireless, you do not need to do much of a job. Only make sure that the sirens are not clearly visible. Then, place the motion sensors on various strategic points according to the instructions provided. A single system can easily cover all points of entry and exit from the house.

You will need to activate the alarm. This can be done through the control panel provided with the kit. There are several customizable options here, like you can select the tone of the siren and you can select the length of time for which the siren will sound. You can also calibrate them so as to exclude your pet movements. Most control panels are now compatible with computer OS such as Windows XP and Vista, which makes configuring them extremely simple.

You will also have to configure the remote control (sometimes known as the key fob) to activate and deactivate the burglar alarm from a distance.

Do not be under any pressure to put up your DIY burglar alarm. Do it coolly; it is your measure to prevent yourself from being a sorry victim of a burglary and other forms of intrusion.
